Synopsis
They Stole a House is a 2019 American documentary film, directed by Michael J. Arbouet about the Zombie House epidemic and squatter crisis in New York. Arbouet, who began researching the topic in 2015, says the film is about “the outdated and lenient squatter’s rights laws in combination with the tenuous banking practices that led to the situation. In four parts, the film explores how thousands of homes suddenly became vacant due to the complicated banking practices and absurd tenant laws that helped create the zombie house crisis.
